SOLO
Hugh Moran is a versatile and highly experienced vocalist and instrumentalist.
He performs solo for private functions, clubs, and many Aged Care facilities. He leads his trio, “The Promised Band”, and does eclectic house concerts with another trio, “The Shruti Brothers”.
After years of touring overseas he established himself in Sydney with the highly respected “Kooka Brothers”. This duo was a pioneer in the programming of midi files and their use in live performance from the mid 1980s to the late 1990s, when Hugh formed "The Promised Band".
Hugh uses midi file backings and has a huge repertoire of over 900 songs covering most styles of popular music. He has performed all over the world, had two #1 hit singles, recorded vocals and keyboards on over 40 CDs for the ABC children's Department. This includes the multiple platinum-selling "SING" series produced annually for Australian schools. He was the official voice of "Pingu" the Penguin, for the ABC.
He has written and recorded many national advertising jingles, soundtracks for short films, played on P&O cruise ships around the Pacific, Asia, India and Africa and has performed in almost every major venue in Sydney, along with a multitude of smaller venues. He has performed in other countries, including long residencies in London bars (Baker Street and Shaftesbury Avenue), and solo concerts in India, Germany, Greece, and the United States.
He was a performer with the famous Australian ‘World Music’ band “Sirocco” performing for Musica Viva in schools around Australia.
Although not Jewish himself, Hugh taught himself to sing in Hebrew and Yiddish and regularly performs for Jewish events and concerts. He also performed at Greek functions for over 20 years with one of Sydney’s finest Bouzouki players, George Tseros.
Hugh gives regular concerts for the elderly in Aged Care and Retirement Homes across Sydney.
From performing personally for Prince Harry at the Sydney 2018 Invictus Games launch, to Kerry Packer’s property ‘Ellerston’; or the Sydney Opera House and Sydney's International Hotels to a suburban garden; or from Club Med to the Olympic Stadium for the World Cup, he has entertained Governors General and Prime Ministers at formal occasions and everyday Australians at backyard birthday parties.
The PROMISED BAND
The Promised Band is an accomplished trio which has entertained with versatility and sensitivity to the mood of the audience.
Together with Hugh, the other members of the band are Leyla Nassif (vocals) and Rob Maxwell Jones (vocals, saxophones, flutes and clarinets).

They include percussionists Fabian Hevia, Jess Ciampa, Peter Jacob and Nic Cecere; wind players Paul Cutlan, Elizabeth Geyer, Glenn Henrich, Bruce Allen and Igor Fedetov; guitarists such as the Aria winning Tony King, and Damien Robison, vocalist Nina Vox, violinists Wayne Goodwin and Mark Singer, and the multi-instrumentalist Justin Brady (Violin, Mandolin and harmonica virtuoso).
The SHRUTI BROTHERS
Peter Jacob (Percussion, 12 string guitar); Peter Helson (Guitars, Mandolin, Ukulele and Banjo) join Hugh (Keyboard, Shruti box) in a trio performing eclectic and quirky arrangements of popular songs with a world music flavour.
The band is a creation from the covid era and is performing at private house concerts.
